Senior Director, Business Development & Corporate Strategy

Located in Redmond WA, Systimmune Inc. is a bio-pharmaceutical company focused on the treatment of cancer through developing novel therapeutic multi-specific antibodies, as well as antibody-drug conjugates (ADCs). Our objective is to create biologics that work through systematic intervention on the solid tumor micro-environment, to either directly attack the tumor and/or to activate the immune system to attack the tumor. 


SystImmune seeks a prominent and visible role as the head of SystImmune’s Business Development and Corporate Strategy. You will lead business development strategy, partnership execution, and key cross-functional strategic initiatives to drive SystImmune’s growth. You will report to the CMO and work closely with the CEO. Potential partners will interface with you as the external face of one of the most innovative ADC companies in the space. You will play a critical leadership role in sourcing, structuring, evaluating, negotiating, executing, and alliance managing transformative deals for both platform and products. You will be accountable for business development success: all deal credit accrues to you. 

From a corporate strategy perspective, you will be relied upon to provide cross-functional leadership of key projects that affect the corporate trajectory of SystImmune, developing the situational assessment, clarifying the strategic imperatives, driving the delivery of teams and communicating key issues, opportunities, and recommendations. 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: 

The primary focus of this role is partnering to create value for our platforms and products. There are several transformative transactions in process. This role will require you to prioritize across all aspects of business development to deliver near-term strategically impactful partnerships: 

Partner Outreach: 

  • Creating compelling partner pitch decks to tell the story of SystImmune and our products 

  • Conducting pro-active outreach to prospective strategic partners and building relationships. Attending industry, partnering/banking and medical conferences (sometimes virtually!) 

  • Secondary focus on identifying and scouting new target, antibody, and technology in-licensing opportunities, as appropriate, to accelerate our pipeline 


· Assessing and tracking competitive assets and companies, as well as prospective partners in conjunction with Product Strategy and Market Intelligence 

Deal Structure 

· Analyzing and proposing term structures and ranges based on financial models and relevant comps 

· Constructing term sheets in partnership with CEO, BoD, Finance and outside counsel 


· Leading deal negotiations and negotiation strategy for collaborations, licenses, acquisitions, and material transfer agreements 

· Working closely with the legal counsel on contract construction and review 

Financial Evaluation 

· Drive appropriate financial evaluation of deal terms and scenarios 

· Building and/or supporting product/market financial modeling 

The secondary focus of this role is to create the Corporate Strategy function for SystImmune. In this role you will initiate and lead the long-range planning process for SystImmune, coordinating across multiple functions to develop product revenue forecasts, program expense forecasts, and key decision points. You will also lead cross-functional leaders in the execution of initiatives to set the trajectory of the company on critical strategic questions. Key project may include: 

  • How should we price platform access? 

  • How can we accelerate our target identification / validation efforts? 

  • How should we set the hurdle for a new strategic project or a new development candidate? 

  • How can we scale the organization and what can we learn from peer benchmarks? 

  • How do we develop multiple products in similar indications? 

This role is typically best suited for candidates with a MBA or graduate degree in life sciences; PhD and/or MD degrees are a plus with a minimum of 10 years of experience working for a pharmaceutical or biotech company in business development or licensing functions. Additionally, you’ll have: 

  • Problem Solving: Must have an aptitude for problem-solving and able to quickly understand new science and technology. 

  • Clear thinking: Ability to work through a wide range of complex intellectual and practical problems. Ability to understand scientific concepts and to analyze unrelated and sometimes incomplete data to make significant judgments about external and internal business issues and concepts. 

  • Experience: Deal sheet consisting of completed sell-side licensing and/or M&A transactions and/or successful completion of buyside transactions. 

  • Business Acumen: A broad business understanding (particularly of the pharmaceutical/biotech industry) and the ability to coordinate cross-functionally is essential. 

  • Communication Skills: The ability to make professional and credible first impressions with internal and external partners and write/present clear, succinct and convincing presentations at varying levels of detail depending on the project scope and audience is important to this position. 

  • Strong analytical, communication, project management and project leadership skills, as well as the ability to execute plans/projects on rapid timetables, are essential. 

  • The ability to influence others in a tactful and well-thought-out manner with supporting information and logic. 

  • Mandarin is a plus 

  • Oncology experience is highly desired.  

  • Comfort interacting with the highest levels of senior management
